About Delaware's State Flower: The Peach Blossom — A Bloom Rooted in Heritage
Delaware chose the peach blossom (Prunus persica) as its state flower to honor a time when it was known nationwide as “The Peach State.” In the late 1800s, over 800,000 peach trees fueled a thriving agricultural economy and shaped the state’s identity.
The peach blossom was adopted as Delaware’s floral emblem in 1895 and officially designated as the state flower in 1953. Today, its soft pink blooms symbolize the state’s rich agricultural heritage and natural beauty.
